A good example of a small English Oak Coffer dating from the mid 18th Century. It has a traditional panelled construction standing on four block feet. It is a simple plain design and has never been over-carved. It is generally clean and tidy inside with its original floor.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use, some small marks and knocks here and there and some minor shrinkage but nothing detrimental and it has developed a beautiful rich patina. There have been some old repairs and the bottom of the feet have been replaced where they have worn over the years. We believe the lid has been replaced at some point but it has been done with good period timbers and the coffer still displays very well. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
