A lovely example of a small English oak coffer dating from the early 18th Century. It is a traditional six plank nailed construction standing on V cut-out end boards. The hinged lid opens to reveal a plain boarded interior. The strap hinges are not original but have been there some time and are in good order.
The coffer is in good condition for its age and has developed a lovely rich patina and good colour. It is generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of age and use, some knocks and marks but nothing detrimental or untoward. An old split in the lid has been strengthened with some inset wooden strips and the whole chest is strong and sturdy. The coffer has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
