A good set of 6 wheelback farmhouse dining chairs dating from the mid 19th Century. They have shaped elm seats and spindle backs with central wheel motifs. They stand on turned legs joined by H-stretchers. There are some very minor differences between the chairs but they make a lovely set.
The chairs stand approximately 35" (89cm) high and 16" (41cm) deep. The seats are 15 3/4" (40cm) wide and 17" (43cm) high.
They are in good condition with a lovely rich colour and are strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks on the seats and around the legs, some minor old shrinkage splits and some old repairs but nothing detrimental. There are a few minor signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the chairs structurally or aesthetically. They have been gently cleaned and polished and are ready for use.
