Absolutely stunning mounted Tiger Skin rug by the renowned Victorian taxidermist Rowland Ward. It has been superbly well preserved and mounted and the taxidermy is of the highest quality.
The tiger skin itself is of good quality without any holes or patches of missing / rubbed fur apart from where would be natural on the tiger. It has been very nicely backed onto a thick black felt which compliments the skin and brings out the colours. It is a high quality backing and a raised edge runs around the skin as well as the backing itself.
On the reverse of the tiger are a series of brass loops sewn into the backing which enable it to be hung on a wall if desired. There is also the original Rowland Ward Label which reads : "The Jungle. Trademark. Rowland Ward. 65 Piccadilly. London". ' The Jungle' was an exhibition that ran at Ward's shop in the late 1800s / early 1900s.
