Product Details

A fine example of an Antique Horse's Hoof which has been made into an Inkwell. It has silver plated mounts which have been expertly shaped to look like hair around the top of the hoof. The hoof itself is also mounted to a plated shoe. The hinged lid opens to reveal a glass inkwell and it also has a pen rest on the back. The bottom of the shoe is marked with a maker's stamp for "Rowland Ward & Co, Naturalists, 166 Piccadilly".

It is in very good condition for its age and displays very nicely. The hoof is a good large size with a nice patina and shine. The mount is in good condition with just some small dinks and dents but nothing detrimental. The hinge and glass liner are in good order. There is some minor wear and rubbing to the plate in places and some areas of tarnishing but nothing detrimental and it has been lightly cleaned and polished to retain its natural aged patina.
