A lovely rosewood writing desk dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. It is a stylish piece with beautiful inlaid stringing and inlaid shell panels. There are two small drawers flanking a central cupboard with a shaped gallery above. The top has an inset green leather writing surface with gilt tooled edging. Below is a long drawer with two brass handles which match the smaller drawers and the inside of the drawer is fitted with a few small sections. Below this is a large sewing compartment which slides out and is lined with a patterned paper. The desk stands on turned tapering legs joined by stretchers and terminating in small ceramic castors.
It is a nice compact size, perfect as a side table or a small desk.
The desk is in very good condition. It is generally clean and tidy throughout and the writing surface is in good order. The drawers open well and the desk moves smoothly on its castors. There are normal signs of light wear and age, a few minor marks and light knocks but no major damages or anything detrimental. We do not have any keys.
