A superb example of an early 19th Century writing slope. It is made of rosewood with recessed brass military style handles, and the most wonderful ornate brass inlay.
Inside, the lid of the box is lined with a blue/green material with tooled edge which pulls down to reveal a document holder behind. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells and there is a lidded compartment and stamp slope. The interior surface is covered in matching material which folds out further to reveal a larger writing surface. Below the writing surface is a secret compartment hiding three small drawers which springs open when a piece of wood by the inkwell is moved. It comes with working keys for both the outer box and inner slope.
It is in excellent original condition and displays beautifully. There are no major damages to the wood exterior, just some small knocks and minor signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The patination is beautiful and the whole box is excellent quality.
