A beautiful gilt framed overmantel mirror dating from the early 19th Century. The mirror itself is flanked by columns with floral leaf decoration, beaded detail and ornate corner pieces. The mirror has a reeded ebonised slip. The glass has been replaced at some point in its life.
The gilding is original and has a wonderful patina with signs of wear and age and some of the original red bole showing through in places. The frame has suffered some minor losses and small damages over the years, most noticeably to one corner piece which is missing a small section (see photo) but overall it displays beautifully and is strong and sturdy. There are some signs of historic worm in the top part of the wooden frame which has been treated as a precaution. The mirror has been lightly cleaned and is ready for use.
