A superb quality Georgian bureau dating from the late 18th Century. It is made from red walnut with the most wonderful colour and patination and it has crossbanded borders.
It has a sloped front above four oak lined drawers, each with its original brass plate handles and matching escutcheons. Above the drawers there is an additional bachelors brushing slide with two small brass knobs. Two smaller drawers flank the slide which act as supports for the fall front. The bureau has a fantastic fitted interior with beautifully shaped small drawers and open pigeon holes.
It comes with working keys for the main sloped front and the three largest drawers.
It is in excellent condition for its age and it displays beautifully. It has been cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. There are some minor signs of age and use, a few small knocks and marks and some minor historic repairs but no major damages or anything detrimental. The interior is in good condition and the drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. It is strong and sturdy and is ready for use.
