Portrait of Lady Sybil McDonnell (1876-1959)

by Howard Somerville (1873–1952), renowned portrait artist.

An important portrait of Lady Sybil McDonnell wife of Vivian Smith, 1st Baron Bicester. Daughter of William McDonnell, 6th Earl of Antrim. A prominent figure in Women’s Suffrage, featuring on the Roll of Honour of Suffragette Prisoners 1905-1914.

Oil on Canvas, signed by the artist in the lower left corner. Original carved giltwood frame. Sourced directly from the family it is the first time this painting has been marketed.

Very good condition. The painting has been cleaned and is free from any major damages. The frame has been sympathetically restored and displays beautifully. Some minor historic signs of worm in the reverse of the frame which has been treated as a precaution.
