Fantastic example of an original early 20th Century Flying Fish carved by the inhabitants on the famous Pitcairn Island. The fish is of traditional form, having a long slender body with carved wings, standing on a turned column and square base. This is a particularly fine example and the detail and quality of the carving is superb with the addition of scales along the body of the fish.
This fish has been made by Christy Warren, a direct descendant of the founders, who was born on the island in 1898. On the wings of the fish he has carved "Souvenir From Pitcairn Island. Made By Christy Warren".
The fish has been very finely carved but still retains a naive charm about it. He is in excellent condition. There are some small surface knocks and natural wear to the wood but there are no damages and he has a lovely patina. He displays beautifully.
