A good quality pair of oil paintings dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. Believed to depict a husband and wife, both sitters are smartly dressed in traditional Georgian clothing. They are skilfully painted with lots of detail and their large size makes them very decorative.
The paintings are both on canvas and framed in ornate gilt gesso frames. The paintings have been cleaned and restored at some point in their lives and the canvases have been re-lined.
There are signs of age and some minor surface marks but nothing untoward and the paintings display well. There are some minor losses and small cracks around the frames but they are strong and sturdy and the gilding is bright and vibrant with a lovely patina.
