Product Details

An excellent example of a pair of Windsor chairs dating from the mid to late 19th century. They are a matching pair, one is just slightly narrower and smaller than the other - perhaps made as a 'his and hers' pair. They both have a high hooped back enclosing turned spindles and a pierced back splat. They stand on turned legs joined by crinoline stretchers.

Below the seat of one chair is the original maker's label for "R.Oddy. Cabinet Maker, 60 King Street, Huddersfield"

The larger chair stands approximately 42" (108cm) high, 17" (43cm) deep, 21 1/2" (54cm) wide and the seat is 17 1/2" (44cm) high. The slightly smaller chair stands approximately 44" (112cm) high, 17" (43cm) deep, 20" (51cm) wide and the seat is 17" (43cm) high

They are both in good original condition and are strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use and some marks, light scratches and wear on the seats and around the legs but nothing untoward. The small spindle joining the crinoline stretcher to the back leg has been replaced on one chair but is a very good match and is not an obvious replacement. There are some signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and haven't affected the chairs structurally or aesthetically. They have been gently cleaned and polished and are ready for use.
