Product Details

An excellent example of a pair of Broad Arm Windsor chairs dating from the mid to late 19th century. They are a very near matching pair with some slight differences in the turnings and sizes - one is just slightly narrower and smaller than the other, perhaps made as a 'his and hers' pair. They both have a high hooped back enclosing turned spindles and a pierced back splat. They stand on turned legs joined by double stretchers. Ash and Elm construction.

The larger chair stands approximately 46" (117cm) high and 25" (64cm) wide across the arms. The seat is 19" (48cm) deep and 17 1/2" (44cm) high. The slightly smaller chair stands approximately 46" (117cm) high and 26" (66cm) wide across the arms. The seat is 18" (46cm) deep and 18" (46cm) high.

They are both in good original condition and are strong and sturdy with a rich patination. There are signs of age and use and some marks, light scratches and wear on the seats and around the legs but nothing untoward. Both seats have knots and one has had some small plugged repairs. They have been gently cleaned and polished and are ready for use.
