Product Details

For sale is a beautiful original - not modern reproduction - Irvin bomber jacket made in the 1940s and worn by British RAF pilots during and after WWII. It's the classic single breasted brown leather and sheepskin lining with all the original features including ventilation holes to the underarms, zips on the forearms and belt loops around the middle, although sadly not the belt.

It has been well worn but well looked after and has developed a beautiful aged vintage look which separates it from the modern copies. It is very much wearable but is not without its small faults. The zipper is missing (replacements are available online), however it sits well when worn open and would rarely have been zipped up anyway. There are some worn patches in the sheepskin lining on the collar (see photo) and on the inner lining of the jacket there are two small hand stitched patches (see photo) where presumably the sheepskin has worn but this hasn't affected the outside. One of the belt loops is missing and another is loose - a few small stitches would fix it in place but I'd rather leave the jacket completely original and untouched for the new owner to decide. The leather is worn and cracked but is actually in superb condition for these jackets. It has not worn through and there are no tears and the colour is gorgeous, the look is just right.
Approximate Measurements:
Shoulder to shoulder : 55cm / 21"
Chest : 42-44"
Shoulder to sleeve : 65cm / 25"
Armpit to sleeve : 54cm / 21"
Length at back : 63cm / 25"
Measurement around bottom of jacket : 46"
It is a good generous size and the loose over-sized styling of the jacket means it will suit a broad range of different sizes. I've had a few different people try it on and we've decided that it most comfortably fits about a 42" chest. If you need any more measurements please just ask.
