A superb portrait of this distinguished Naval gentleman in its original frame. Expertly painted on canvas with lots of detail.
The ornate carved wood and gesso frame is superb quality with shell motifs and its original plaque " Rear Admiral Charles E. Gissing R.N. Painted by Frank Richards ".
There is a pencil inscription on the back of the frame " Painted by Frank Richards, 1911. Kingston Rd, Bournemouth".
It is an imposing size, measuring approximately 42" (107cm) high x 36" (91cm) wide including the frame.
The painting is in good original condition. There are signs of age, some minor surface marks and some crackling of the varnish in places but overall it displays well. There are some small losses and minor cracks around the frame but nothing to concern us and it is solid and sturdy. The painting has been lightly cleaned and is ready to hang.
