A large mahogany bookcase dating from the late 19th Century. It is a simple design in two sections, the top section set back on the base. It stands on a plinth base with a shaped cornice. The shelves are made of thick pine with mahogany fronts and their position is adjustable on movable brass pegs.
It is a good quality piece with a nicely panelled back and moulded edges and it is a good large size, perfect for an alcove. It splits into its two sections, held together by screws, for easy transport.
It is in very good condition for its age and the mahogany has developed a beautiful patina. It is not without some small knocks and marks and there is a small old stain on the top surface but nothing untoward or detrimental and it displays well. It has been cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
