A large mahogany pedestal desk dating from the early 20th Century. It has an arrangement of 9 drawers around a central kneehole. Each drawer has its original brass swan neck handles and each pedestal has a plinth base with castors below. The top of the desk has a good quality green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge and border.
It is an excellent quality piece with panelled sides and a nicely panelled back meaning it could be used as a freestanding piece in the centre of a room as well as against a wall. The desk comes with a key that locks the bottom 6 drawers.
The desk is in good condition for its age and has been well looked after. It has a lovely rich colour and the leather surface is in good order with a nice patina. The ash-lined drawers open well and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are some signs of age and use, some minor knocks and light surface marks and a few old repairs but nothing detrimental. The desk has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
