A fine example of a huge solid sterling silver tea tray of elliptical form embellished with a broad band of bright cut scrolling acanthus leaf, shell and trelliswork engraved decoration encircling the surface. Two vacant cartouche are incorporated within the bright cut engraved designs.
The tray has an impressive scrolling acanthus leaf and floral embossed and chased decorated border with matte background. There are a further two vacant cartouche incorporated in the border decoration. Inset shaped handles are found at either end of the tray.
It is clearly hallmarked for Sheffield, 1902 and the maker John Henry Potter.
It is a superb quality piece, weighing approximately 4603g.
It is in excellent condition for its age. It has never been engraved and there are no major damages. There are some faint surface marks and very light surface scratches but nothing detrimental or untoward and it displays well.
