A good example of a large antique pine blanket box dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It is likely Scandinavian in origin and has large metal carrying handles on the sides and it stands on block feet. The lid opens on its original blacksmith-made strap hinges and it has its original working lock and key. It is a good quality piece with handmade dovetail joints and the pine has mellowed to a lovely warm colour.
A good size for a coffee table, end of bed storage or toy trunk.
It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are some signs of historic worm, particularly around the base, which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. There are signs of age and use, some general knocks, light marks and minor splits but nothing detrimental. The feet have been replaced at some point in its life but it displays well. The box has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
