A large Dutch dome-top oak trunk dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It stands on bracket feet with a shaped frieze and has two large metal carrying handles each side. The front is carved with a primitive circular design with intials V & H below and further letters in the circles. It is likely it was given as a marriage chest to 'V&H'. The inside is generally clean and tidy and it has its original candle box.
It is in excellent original condition. It has developed a beautiful rich patina and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use and some light marks and knocks but nothing detrimental. The bottom boards have sligtly shrunk and there is a small shrinkage split running across the floor but its not major. The lock has been changed at some point and we do not have a key. The hinges are strong and sturdy and overall it displays beautifully.
