Product Details

Fine example of an early 20th Century Vernier Sextant. The body of the sextant is black with the 'three-ring' frame design. It has a silvered and brass scale reading to 150 degrees. It is comes with original telescope lens, sunshades, mirrors and movable scale reader arm. It also has a spare brass lens.

The scale is engraved with the maker's name ; "Heath & Co. New Eltham. London. S.E.9". Inside the lid of the box is an examination certificate dating from 1942.
The sextant is in its original fitted wooden case with sections to hold the lenses and a wooden latch to keep the sextant in place during transport. It has a brass carrying handle and closing latches.
Approximate Measurements :
Box : 10" x 11" x 5 1/2"
Height : 3"
Width of Scale : 9"
The sextant is in good condition for its age. It has been lightly cleaned and displays very well. The lens and mirrors are undamaged and produce a clear image. All parts move as they should. The box is not without some small knocks and some minor signs of age but overall it has a nice aged patina. I have not tested the accuracy of the sextant and it is being sold as a collectors item rather than a working scientific instrument.
