A lovely set of 4 'penny' chairs dating from the early 20th Century. They have thick round shaped seats, spindle backs and turned legs joined by a H-stretcher. They are a harlequin set with some slight differences between the chairs but they go together nicely as a set. One chair still has its original 'Ibex' paper label below the seat.
The chairs are a good size and are comfortable to sit in. The seats are approximately 17 1/4" (44cm) high and 16" (41cm) wide. The chairs themselves are 32" (81cm) high.
They are in good condition for their age and are strong and sturdy with a lovely patina. There are signs of age and use, a few knocks and light scuffs around the legs and some minor age-related marks here and there and some old repairs but nothing detrimental or untoward. There are some signs of historic worm in a couple of areas which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the chairs structurally or aesthetically. They have all been cleaned and lightly polished and are ready for use.
