A charming country oak side table on square tapering legs dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. It has a single drawer with brass swan neck handles and an unusual pull-out slide similar to those seen on Bachelor's chests. It is unusual to find one on a table so it is possible this one was used as a writing surface or for larger plans such as for an architect or lawyer. The drawer front and top of the table are inlaid with a decorative square banding.
It is in good original condition with a beautiful rich patina. It is strong and sturdy and the drawer runs well. There are normal signs of age and use, some light knocks and surface marks and old ink stains but nothing detrimental. A section of the wooden inlay has been replaced at some point and there are some historic woodworm holes evident which have all been treated as a precaution. Overall it displays very nicely and is a good honest table.
