A good example of a period oak dresser dating from the late 18th century. The base has five drawers arranged around a small central arch standing on turned legs with block feet and an open potboard base. It has its original plate rack with 3 open shelves with grooves for standing up plates and many of its original blacksmith made hooks. The drawers have turned wooden knobs and the central drawer has a lovely inlaid diamond shaped escutcheon.
It is in good original condition throughout and is strong and sturdy. It is not without some signs of age and use and some light marks and old stains on the surface but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. At some point the rack was reduced in height but the cut pieces were kept and have been reattached, leaving small join marks in the side which are hardly noticeable (see photo). The drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open well. It has been given a clean and gentle wax and is ready for use.
