A large oak mule chest dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. It has a panelled front, panelled sides and a planked top with two drawers below. The hinged lid opens to reveal a large storage area with a candle box and its original blacksmith made hinges.
It is in good condition throughout and is strong and sturdy with a beautiful rich patina. The interior is generally clean and tidy and the hinges are strong. The drawers open smoothly and have good quality brass handles. There are signs of age and use, some minor marks and knocks and there have been a few old repairs including a new lining in one drawer but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are some signs of historic worm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
