A charming country oak clerk’s desk dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. It has a sloped front with a small lip on the bottom. The top lifts up to reveal a series of small pigeon holes and 3 small drawers. There is a long drawer below with its original brass swan neck handles and it has been lined with green baize at some point. The bottom drawer has a working key but the top has had the lock removed.
It is in good condition and the oak has developed a wonderful rich colour over the years. It has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The interior is in good condition with a few old splits and stains but nothing detrimental and the drawer opens smoothly. There are general signs of age and use, small old knocks, splits and marks but no major damages and the piece is strong and sturdy. There has been an old repair on one back leg and there are signs of old woodworm in the sides which has all been treated as a precaution.
