A superb example of an early 19th Century writing slope. It is made of mahogany with recessed brass military style carrying handles, brass edges and an inlaid brass escutcheon and brass cartouche.
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely deep blue writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a removable pen tray, a stamp slope and a lidded pot. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below and there is also a long drawer on the side of the box which pulls out when a brass pin is lifted. There are also three small concealed secret drawers which spring open when a piece of wood is lifted.
It is in very good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. The wood has a lovely rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks, minor splits but no major damages and it displays beautifully. It does not come with inkwells.
