An elegant mahogany washstand dating from the early 1800s. It stands on four square legs with a middle shelf and lower crossed stretchers joining the legs. There is a small drawer below the shelf with a brass knob. The flat top hinges open to reveal cut outs for a washbowl which will more than likely not be used now but is a nice bit of history and doesn't prevent the piece being used as a table.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. The mahogany has faded slightly over the years and there are some minor historic shrinkage splits on the top surface but it has a very pleasant patina. There are signs of age and use, some light marks and old stains but no major damages and overall it displays well. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
