A good quality mahogany secretaire chest dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. It is an elegant Georgian design with brass swan neck handles, boxwood strung borders to the drawers and top and it stands on small bracket feet. The top two drawers conceal a secretaire with a fitted interior. The drawer front hinges down and reveals a lovely green writing surface and a series of small drawers and pigeonholes around a central cupboard. The further three drawers below the secretaire are oak lined.
It is in very good condition with a lovely patina. The drawers are generally clean and tidy and open well. There are some signs of age and use, some small knocks and surface marks but nothing detrimental. There is a small repair to some damage in the rear corner (see photo) but nothing untoward and it displays well. There are signs of historic worm in the backboards which has all been treated as a precaution. The secretaire has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
