Product Details

A small Georgian mahogany Linen Press, converted to a hanging wardrobe, dating from the early 19th Century. It has two panelled cupboard doors opening to reveal a hanging bar and a series of hooks. It would have originally had linen slides which have now been removed to be used as a wardrobe but shelves could easily be put back in if desired.

The floor to the cupboard and the inside of the small top drawers have also been removed to give a longer hanging area. The drawer below is a normal drawer, providing useful storage. The drawers have attractive brass lions head handles and it stands on ogee bracket feet.

It is a good quality piece with elegant Georgian proportions. The grain and colour of the mahogany is superb and the whole piece has a wonderful patina. It has a solid panelled back and it comes with its original working key for the cupboard doors. The handles are not original but suit the piece well.

It is in good condition and has been gently cleaned and polished. The interior is clean and tidy and the drawer opens smoothly. There are signs of age and use and there have been some repairs over the years but nothing detrimental or untoward. There are some minor marks, knocks and small losses here and there but no major damages and overall it displays well.
