A good example of an early 19th Century Georgian knife box. It is made from mahogany with an attractive double serpentine shape. The interior has been re-fitted to serve as a letter or stationery box with long removable compartments made with a mahogany frame. The box comes with its original working key.
It is in good condition for its age. It has a lovely colour and grain and the inside is clean and tidy. There are signs of wear and age, some minor marks and knocks, a few old repairs and the hinges have been replaced at some point but overall it displays well.
