A good example of an early 19th Century Georgian knife box. It is made from mahogany with an inlaid marquetry star and is an attractive serpentine shape. There is banded stringing around the outside of the box and this is continued on the interior as well. The interior itself is fully fitted with long compartments and there is an inlaid marquetry star under the lid.
It is in good condition for its age. It has a beautiful colour and grain and the inside is clean and tidy. There are signs of wear and age, some old repairs and old shrinkage splits and other minor marks. There are also some strips of the stringing missing from around the edges (see photos). We do not have a key.
