A fine example of a Georgian mahogany chest on chest, dating from the late 18th Century. This impressive piece is very good quality with a dentil cornice, attractive reeded chamfered corners and gentleman's brushing slide. It has pierced brass handles and matching escutcheons which, although are not original, suit the style and age of the piece very well. The piece sits on simple bracket feet. The lower section contains three graduating drawers and the top section contains three small over three long drawers. The piece splits into two parts to make transport easier.
The whole piece is in good condition. It is sturdy and the oak lined drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open well. There are no signs of worm and it has developed a beautiful patina with a deep rich colour. It has been well maintained over the years and as such has some small old repairs to the veneer in places. There are some minor signs of age and use, some small surface marks, a small split near the top cornice and a chip near the back but nothing major or untoward. Overall it displays beautifully.
