A beautiful mahogany chest of drawers dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. The drawers have brass swan neck handles and the chest stands on nicely shaped ogee bracket feet. The drawers have inlaid boxwood strung borders and above the drawers are three inlaid marquetry shell panels. The top has a boxwood strung edge and central inlaid panel. It would have likely been a matching shell motif but has since been replaced with a beautiful book matched wood.
It is in good condition for its age and has been gently re-polished to bring out the lovely colour and grain of the wood. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are typical signs of age and use, some minor marks and knocks and some old repairs but nothing detrimental. There is an old shrinkage split in the top (see photo) but it still displays well. The chest has been cleaned and is ready for use.
