A fine example of a small Georgian mahogany Bachelor's chest, dating from the late 18th Century. It has four long drawers below a gentleman's brushing slide and stands on simple bracket feet. It has brass swan neck handles with pierced back plates which, although are not original, suit the style and age of the piece very well and have been put on using the original holes so as not to leave any marks.
The whole piece is in good condition. It is sturdy and the oak lined drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open well. It has developed a lovely patina with a deep rich colour. There are some signs of age and use, some small surface marks and knocks but nothing detrimental. It has been well maintained over the years and as such has some small repairs to the veneer in places, particularly around the escutcheons, and there has been a repair on the top surface where a piece of wood has been replaced along the back edge (see photos).
