A superb elm chest of drawers dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. They are made of solid elm with four long drawers offering plenty of storage. Each drawer has brass plate handles with matching escutcheons which, although aren't original, suit the chest well. The wood has mellowed to a lovely warm patina with the most wonderful grain and the top of the chest sags attractively in the middle giving a nod to its age.
They are in very good condition and are strong and sturdy. The oak lined drawers open smoothly having recently had the runners replaced and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of age and use, various small knocks, marks and a few chips in the cockbeading but nothing detrimental or untoward. They have been cleaned and gently polished and are ready for use.
