A superb example of a military campaign writing slope dating from the early 19th Century. It is made of an exotic hardwood, possibly Sandalwood, and has brass banding, brass corners and brass strapping.
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely dark writing surface with a tooled edge. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells with brass screw tops and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below. There is a tray in one section which lifts out to reveal two small hidden drawers.
It is in good original condition and comes with a working key. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks but no major damages. The inkwells probably aren't original but suit the box well. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and displays beautifully.
