A large and good quality mid Victorian oil painting showing figures in a river landscape set below an atmospheric sky. It is very well executed with lots of detail and is signed 'Walter Williams' to the lower right.
It is framed in its original ornate giltwood and gesso frame with a deep cushioned border and gilt slip.
The painting is in excellent condition for its age and has been recently cleaned and relined. The gilding on the frame is clean and bright and it is in very good condition.
Walter Williams (1834–1906) was an accomplished English landscape painter during the Victorian era and a member of the renowned Williams family of painters. He exhibited a total of 81 paintings at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Society of British Artists.
