A lovely Davenport desk dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. It is made of walnut with nicely inlaid borders and boxwood stringing. It has a sloped front with a beautifully tooled red leather writing surface that lifts up to reveal a large storage compartment with three small pigeon holes.
There are four drawers to one side of the davenport and four matching dummy drawers to the other. It has a small domed top section which lifts up to reveal a fitted interior with a pen tray and various other sections for pens and stationery. It has two shaped supports and stands on turned bun feet with castors below.
The quality and condition are excellent and the walnut has developed a wonderful patina. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished and displays well. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy. The lining to one drawer has been replaced at some point and we do not have any keys. There are no major damages to the exterior just some small signs of age, minor marks, a few old chips and splits but nothing detrimental and overall it is a lovely sturdy piece of furniture.
