An excellent quality kneehole desk by James Shoolbred & Co dating from the early 20th Century.
The desk has two large cupboards flanking the kneehole with a drawer above. The top and sides are oak with beautiful burr walnut fronts to the drawers and cupboards. It has brass art nouveau style handles and there is a small inner drawer inside the right hand cupboard with matching handle. The top of the desk has a lovely green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge.
The drawer is stamped with the maker's name "JAs Shoolbred & Co" and the serial number "9334".
The desk is raised on castors and has ample leg room of 19" (49cm) wide x 24 1/2" (62cm) high.
The desk is in good condition for its age and has been well looked after. The drawers and cupboards open well and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are normal signs of age and use, some minor knocks and light surface marks and a few chips around the bottom of the pedestals but nothing detrimental. The desk has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
