A superb early Victorian mahogany secretaire bookcase having glazed doors to the top, enclosing an adjustable shelved interior. The base having a pull out secretaire drawer above two panelled cupboard doors. The quality is excellent and the mahogany is beautifully figured. The doors are flanked by square columns with carved corbels and the base is supported by turned columns on flat bun feet. The fitted interior of the secretaire drawer is beautiful with a leather writing surface and an arrangement of seven small satinwood drawers around two open pigeon holes and a small cupboard door with its original key. The piece also comes with a key for the drawer and the upper and lower cupboards.
It is a good narrow size, perfect for an alcove and it splits into two parts for easy transport.
It is in excellent original condition. It has been cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. There are some minor signs of age and use, small light marks and small knocks but nothing detrimental and it displays well.
