Product Details

A superb oak cantilever box dating from the early to mid 20th Century, used as a countertop display in a Haberdashery shop to sell Clark's 'Anchor' cotton. The box has three cantilevered sections and a hinged glazed lid with gold anchor logo and ivorine plaque 'Fast Colors'. The front is inscribed in gilt 'Clark's Anchor Stranded Cotton for Embroidery'. Each level is divided into 8 sections and contains many bundles of different coloured thread. There are two metal knobs on the front of the box. While holding the bottom one to steady the box, the top one can be used to open out the cantilever mechanism.

Approximate Measurements:
Closed : 16" (41cm) wide x 4" (10cm) tall x 8" (20cm) deep
Open : 7" (18cm) tall x 16" (40cm) deep
It is in excellent condition for its age. The cantilever mechanism works smoothly and the inside of the drawers are clean and tidy. The wood has a nice aged patina with no major damage, apart from a few small chips which I have photographed. The glass is undamaged and the logo and writing are bright and vibrant.
