A superb example of an original Black Forest umbrella or stick stand dating from the late 19th Century. It is made from carved linden wood in the form of a standing bear holding round branches to support the sticks. The carving is exceptionally good quality and he has a lovely expression. He’s got his original glass eyes and metal drip tray and the most fantastic colour and patina.
He is in excellent condition with no major damages or splits. There are of course some signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and he is strong and sturdy. The base of the drip tray has been repaired so it is now fit for purpose.
