A good example of a Windsor chair dating from the early to mid 19th century. It has a high hooped back enclosing tapering spindles and a pierced back splat. It has a beautiful shaped solid elm seat and stands on turned legs joined by a crinoline stretcher.
The chair stands approximately 42" (107cm) high, the seat is 15" (38cm) deep and 16 1/2" (42cm) high. Arm to arm the chair is 24" (61cm) wide and overall it is approx 25" (64cm) deep.
It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy with no signs of worm or any major damages. There are signs of age and use and some marks and light scratches on the seat and around the legs but nothing detrimental. There is a small old split in the top hoop which hasn't affected the chair structurally or aesthetically. It has developed a wonderful rich patina and there are some signs of an old stain or varnish which has worn over time. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
