A good example of a Windsor chair dating from the mid to late 19th century. It has a high hooped back enclosing tapering spindles and a pierced back splat. It stands on turned legs joined by a H-stretcher. It has a lovely shaped elm seat with a wonderful warm colour and grain.
The chair stands approximately 41" (104cm) high and is 24" (61cm) deep. The seat is 14" (36cm) deep and 17" (43cm) high and arm to arm the chair is 22" (56cm) wide.
It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy with no signs of worm or any major damages. There are signs of age and use and some marks and light scratches on the seat and around the legs but nothing detrimental. There are a few old splits in the back splat and an old repair on one stretcher but the chair is strong and sturdy and has developed a wonderful rich patina. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
