Product Details

A fantastic tabletop collectors cabinet dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. It is a good quality piece made from walnut with turned wooden knobs and dovetail joints.

Chests such as this were used for storing all sorts of things - collectors would use them to store samples in, whether that be rocks, butterflies, eggs or coins etc. This particular chest has six drawers, graduating in depth from top to bottom. All of the drawers are sectioned inside into small compartments, varying in size from the smallest at the top to the largest squares at the bottom.

Overall it is in good original condition and is certainly a usable piece. There are signs of age and use and the cabinet has picked up some knocks and scuffs over the years but the drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open smoothly. There have been some historic repairs including a new piece of wood along the front of the top edge and a new plinth around the base as well as some small repairs to chips around the drawers however it still displays very well.
