Product Details

Fine example of a high quality telescope dating from the early 20th Century. It is a powerful leather clad field telescope which is fitted with an additional Pancratic Draw Tube which enables the power to be increased from 20x to 30x in stages of 5x.

The tapered telescope body is covered in brown leather and there is a separate stitched leather end cap. The draw tubes are brass.

It comes with its original metal tripod. It swivels 360 degrees and is fastened around the main body of the telescope. The feet are spiked to enable it to be stuck into the ground in the field.

It is engraved "E.VION Paris. S.2.286." Below this is the military arrow which denotes that it is a military issue telescope, likely to have been used in WWI.

Measurements :

Closed Length : 13" (33cm)

Extended Length : 33" (84cm)

Front Lens Diameter : 2 1/4" (6cm)

Height on Tripod : 13" (33cm)

The condition of the telescope is very good. I do not know the exact magnification but it is incredibly powerful. The lenses are undamaged and generally clean. They are not without a few spots but they focus well and produce a clear and crisp image. The tubes have some signs of wear on them but are free of major dents and the draws have a smooth but firm action. The brass is tarnished and has not been polished to retain its natural aged patina.
