Product Details

Fine example of a Victorian barrister's wig, contained within its original tin. The wig is made from horse hair and is superb quality. It has a label sewn inside which reads "Patented. Ravenscroft. 3". The wig is of traditional design with two tails and plentiful curls. The name of the owner "A.H.Graham Esq" is sewn inside the wig and is also painted on the tin.

The metal tin is painted black with gold detail and it has the original wig stand inside the tin. Inside the lid the maker's name is printed "Ravenscroft Law. Wig & Robe Maker. Lincolns Inn. London". The large tin is approximately 10" high by 9" wide to allow the wig to be properly stood on the stand and not creased or folded.
The overall condition is excellent and both the wig and the tin display beautifully. The hair on the wig is full and generally tidy and there are many curls. The wig is well over 100 years old and has been used over the years so please expect there to be some signs of wear. The tin has some areas of wear on the paint and some small surface marks and links but nothing detrimental and overall it is clean and tidy and the hinge is strong.
