Fine example of an antique Homeopathic medicine box dating from the late 19th Century. The box is made of mahogany with a beautiful grain and its original brass escutcheon and recessed brass handle. Inside the box the lid is lined in leather with two pockets labelled 'Plaster' in gilt lettering and also two folding leather pouches labelled 'Arnica' and 'Calendula'.
The main interior of the box is fitted with two layers of softwood with 30 holes cut out for holding bottles / tubes. Below this is a drawer, held by a brass pin. The drawer has its original dividers and leather covering with gilt lettering 'and Lint Oiled Silk'.
The whole piece is in excellent condition for its age. The box has a superb patina and the hinges are in good order. The interior is clean and tidy and very original. There are of course some signs of age and use. There are some knocks and small scuffs on the box and a few old splits but overall nothing detrimental.
